This fund lives up to the ‘blue-chip’ tag in its name. The fund invests 35% of its assets in large-caps and the rest 65% in mid-caps. The fund picks up companies for its portfolio with operating profits of Rs 100 Cr. It avoids investing in micro-caps. What are large & mid cap funds?

SEBI in its October 6, 2017 circular laid down 5 broad and 36 sub-categories for mutual funds. It has also described each scheme’s characteristics. It defined the large & mid cap funds category as an open-ended equity scheme investing in both large-cap and mid-cap stocks. According to SEBI, a fund can be called as a large & mid cap funds if the minimum investment in equity & equity related instruments of large-cap companies is 35% of total assets and mid-cap stocks are 35% of total assets. This new category is positioned between the two major categories, i.e., large-cap and mid-cap categories.
